A control chart is graph that can help determine when a process is "out of control" and thus might need to be reset, repaired, or recalibrated.
The control charts prepared by this software are ordinary Excel XY plots (also known as line charts) with some added special features including:
+ Upper and lower control limits (UCL and LCL) to help identify outliers and other
data that are unusually far from the norm.
+ Eight different control tests (which you can turn on and off) to help identify when
the "process" represented by your data is "out of control".
For example, if your "process" is a laboratory analysis for determining the API gravity of different batches of crude oils, and you suddenly get six data points in a row that are all increasing (or decreasing) in value, then you have failed Control Test 3. (Test 3 looks for six points in a row that are all increasing or decreasing.) Such a trend could indicate that instead of being a correct analytical result, perhaps one of the instruments in your laboratory is drifting out of control and needs to be repaired or recalibrated. ControlChart provides eight different control tests to help determine when your process is out of control. Data points that fail a test are highlighted for easy identification.
